About Munro’s

Munro’s is situated on the Isle of Bute, just 1.5 hrs from Glasgow by car and ferry (32 miles if you’re a crow!). The island is the perfect getaway location for relaxation, walks on beaches, cycling on quiet roads or visits to historic locations. The wonderful Mount Stuart house, where Stella McCartney was married, is well worth a visit.
If you enjoy golf there are are 3 courses on the island and fly fishing for rainbow and brown trout is available for enthusiasts.
The house is a perfect location for a family or group of friends to relax and enjoy each other’s company. Comfortably furnished and with original features, there is plenty of space for socialising and private areas for relaxing! We also have a cosy cinema room with loads of DVDs that you can watch.

Enjoy the well equipped kitchen which is a lovely space for socialising with a log burner in the centre and a 12 seater table at one end.
There are 8 bedrooms with 7 en suite bathrooms. Our largest bedroom has a double sofabed and works well as a family room. Our smallest bedroom has bunk beds and would be perfect for kids and teenagers. We also have a travel cot. Outside, there is plenty of parking ( for 6-8 cars) and a large decked area to sit and take in the view. The 1 acre sloping garden is great for hide and seek and we have a lily pond.

We absolutely loved the house
We stayed at the house in April 2023 for a week, a large family group of all ages celebrating a big birthday. We absolutely loved the house – kitchen was so well-equipped, lots of space for a group of 11, and the views were fantastic. We loved eating in the dining room and sitting at night by the wood burner playing games. Would very much recommend Munro’s, and Bute is a beautiful island.

Perfect view, wonderful house
We enjoyed three wonderful weeks at Munro’s House in August 2019, having invited various family and friends to join us for three or four day visits to help us celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. Everyone enjoyed the elegant house with its welcoming atmosphere. The house and garden are well maintained, the beds firm and comfortable, and the water heater able to provide showers for even our large group.

Fabulous house with a spectacular view
Booked house for 3 nights to celebrate my 60th birthday with 17 family and friends. It’s a great space and we held a sit down dinner in the conservatory. The view over the bay was stunning and we really enjoyed sitting having our morning coffee on the decking. See photos below. The kitchen was very well equipped and spacious which made cooking for such a large crowd really easy. Was great having a log burner in lounge area as we lit this as was cold and wet on 2 of the nights. All bedrooms had en suite which was a bonus. Would highly recommend the house. Joan the owner was lovely and very helpful. Bute is a beautiful island and we will return in the future.

Andy and Joan were superb hosts – they made our family trip to Rothesay incredibly stress free and allowed us to enjoy every minute. The house itself is extremely spacious and fitted all 10 of us – plus a newborn – easily. The entire house was immaculately presented and we all immediately felt at home here. The kitchen and living area have the most beautiful wood burners that kept us and the house toasty all weekend. The house is a 5 minute drive along the road to the main street in Rothesay which boasts plenty of pubs and shops for all the necessities. The kitchen facilities were fabulous and made cooking for 10 a simple job. Thank you again to Andy and Joan for being such brilliant hosts, we would return here in a heartbeat.

A lovely few days spent in Andy & Joan’s fantastic house on the Isle of Bute. The house was perfect for our needs, with plenty of space and character, and conveniently located for all that the island has to offer. Andy & Joan were great hosts and gave us some fab tips on how best to enjoy the island, a particular favourite was the Bute Microbrewery and their awesome stone baked pizzas. Highly recommended!

What a wonderful time we had at Munro’s. We booked the whole place out for a couple of nights for a wedding we attended. Joan and Andy made us so very welcome and were so accommodating and went out of their way to ensure we had a great stay.
They put on a buffet dinner for us the night before the wedding and allowed us to take over the place the next morning with a hairdresser and make up artist whilst we got ready.
munro’s is not too far from the town of Rothesay and has spectacular views out over the bay.
I was lucky to get the suite downstairs which is a beautiful room with those views. Shower facility was excellent.
Can’t recommend enough! Especially if you’re looking for somewhere for a group of you to stay.

The house was comfy and cosy
Munros was perfect for our large group at Hogmanay. All the bedrooms were well sized and more than enough bathrooms for everyone. The house was comfy and cosy and also well equipped, the kitchen particularly. The children loved the cinema room and we had some great dinners in the kitchen with the wood burning stove keeping us all warm!
